PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Third Phase of Project (2005-2007):
In the third phase of our project, we explore ritual cultures of learning, including their formal and informal aspects. We will analyze these cultures as examples of education and personal growth in a way that reflects their perceptions by groups and by individuals. Our studies on the performative character of ritual cultures of learning will focus on their tangible material dimensions, their symbolic levels of cross reference and their imaginary outlines. Therefore the goal of our project is to study dimensions of the creation of ritual knowledge in the four socializing fields of family, school, peer group and the media. Our project will focus on situations of learning as well as on the formation of ritual knowledge. It will not only investigate the ritual background of cultures of learning, but will also research the meaning of educational spaces for ritual knowledge and acting. To reconstruct the performative character of ritual acting and its basic conditions,
we will apply visual and text interpretative methods of qualitative social research that have proven valuable in the past, and we will enhance them with a differentiation between biography-oriented, community-oriented and institution-oriented research of learning.
